Other Ministry of Community And Social Services Funded Programs
Whether or not you are currently involved with an agency on behalf of a person with a developmental disability, the Ministry of Community & Social Services has additional funding programs that families can apply to directly.
Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities

If you are a parent caring for a child with a severe disability, you may be able to receive some financial help.
The Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities program helps parents with some of the extra costs of caring for a child who has a severe disability.

Special Services at Home
This program helps families who are caring for a child with a developmental or physical disability, as well as adults with a developmental disability.
It helps families pay for special services in the home or outside the family home as long as the child is not receiving support from a residential program. For example, the family may hire someone to assist their family member to be meaningfully engaged within their community and to increase opportunities to develop new skills and competencies.

Passport Initiative
The Ontario government created the Passport initiative to provide opportunities for individuals who have a developmental disability and who have left school to find more ways to participate in their communities.  Through Passport, participants can receive funding for activities that encourage their personal development and help them achieve their potential.
Central East Region Passport Resource

Each of these programs provides funding on a monthly basis to help support children and adults. Areas of support and eligibility are determined on an individual basis, and in the latter two programs, supports are provided only as funds are available. To find out more about these programs please visit the Ontario, Ministry of Community & Social Services links provided above or call the MCSS office in Whitby directly at 905-665-1030.
